MOURNING DOVE / MEŽA BALODĪTIS [short fiction]

Riga IFF 2024 - short film competition

A dark dream about that menace that gusts on the threshold of time turning memories into oblivion. And of a man, forever entangled in its turmoil, forgetting to look forward. This one is my personal favourite - made as a film school excercise adapting a freely chosen piece of Latvian prose.

"Latvian writer Kārlis Skalbe and his dark fairy tale "Mourning Dove", with its haunting imagery of nature, has captivated me since childhood. I am compelled by its timeless theme: the danger of losing oneself in memory and forgetting the present. My film explores this through a visually evocative, atmospheric style."
